The Special Education Department offers services to students with learning disabilities, mental retardation, autism, sensory and physical disabilities, behavior disorders and giftedness for children 3 through 21 years of age.
These services are provided by both licensed teachers and professional staff and by trained paraprofessionals. In addition to student services, the department also provides staff development for all Roane County educators, parent training, and area wide inter-agency collaborations.

Mrs. Walker, a graduate of Harriman High School, has a B.S. from East Tennessee State University, an M.S. from The University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and an Ed.S. from Tennessee Technological University. She has served Roane County Schools as a special education and regular education teacher. Mrs. Walker is currently in her 14th year as the Special Education Supervisor for the Roane County School System and has been with the system for a total of 33 years.
